I should be painting like my life depended on it (because it does), and what am I doing? Checking out your blog. This is a bit of a departure for you, isn't it Guy? I've seen some robots, but you spent some time on this one. Very nicely designed. Can I get that to go? The robot, not the pie.
Nifty robot...I like the black background. I also want to say that i love your 'sketch club" drawings beow...the guy on the bicycle is such a wonderful character! What a fun thing to do:>
And I can verify that Guy indeed captured Mullet Man on the bike. Although the shorts were actually more of a vivid coral than pink. The kids and I also think there was only a stache, no goatee.
so tell us...what's the technique. It's almost glowing. computer? scratch board? looks cool. play with that for your book...glowing lines on a dark background. too bad the robot doesn't have teeth for the pie or the dentist.
Funny..when I saw this week's IF topic..I also thought about a robot who likes pies...! Mine turned evil instead. Anyways, love it- especially that its done in white on black.
THis robot is cOOL! Looks like he can be a home security and bake pie!! WOW!! I can use a robot like that!! May be he can prevent my cows from getting kidnapped by aliens too!
It reminded me of those drawings that I did in the third grade with color background with black crayon smeared over the top, then you scratch the black off with a pen. Except your robot doesn't suck.
Julie: No trick here. I just inverted my sketch in photoshop. Sadly, it doesn't really require Robot Vison Googles.
Chickengirl: Thanks. Your robot is evil and cute.
Alina: As always, thanks so much for your comments. If they ever make a home security-pie making robot I'll buy you one.
Michelle: Just go for it and have fun. Go to the bookstore and study your favorite children's books. Looks how others do color, layouts, design etc... then go for it.
Llama: Black crayon scratchboard if one of the finer mediums. Often over looked by the art world.
I really like your robot. And of course all of your work. You have a style and ability that I can only wish for. I put your image in my paint program and reversed it back to white background and discovered the reason he has a pie: 3.14159

I love the black background. Your blog is one of my favorites.
A co-worker of mine is having a book published and wants me to illustrate it. This is my first time doing artwork for someone else. Any advise?
