The tale of the little mersquid is a less known among bipeds, but it kills with undersea children.
I did the sketch for this piece earlier this month and I liked it enough that I thought I should paint it, if I ever found the time. So, yesterday I needed to do a painting demo for my class and I thought Miss Squid would be perfect. It worked up pretty nicely, especially when you have a bunch of students watching over your shoulder. Talk about pressure. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. Enjoy.

Nice. very nice. So much to like, character, humour, lovely palatte, rendering, just... really nice.
what a charming little mersquid! I love the colors and the shine. It's hard to work with people looking over your shoulder,it makes me freeze up :)
She is a beauty of a beast! Just love your work. Sure wish I was one of your students watching you paint.
Nicely done Guy! I like your choice of colours and the slippery look you’ve given the tentacles. I would love to see how you would treat the background (given more time and less over the shoulder pressure!).
Makes me think of the old James Bond film “Octopussy”.:-)
Beautiful work, as always.
Beautiful!!!!
oh... her mersquid tummy...she has the most perfect tummy. sigh...must be all that swimming and swooshing about in the ocean. ") this rocks, guy! love her colors and squidy form! :)
Gorgeous piece Guy! Your transitions from 'squid' to human are incredible. You are the master craftsman.
Teach them well.
This is just terrific!!
How long did it take you to paint this with the students peering over your shoulder?
Love the mersquid, very creative.
I love her tail and her hair, beautiful work.
This looks great!
Thanks for you kind comments everybody. Stacy- I did the underpainting for the class and I also took a few hair tentacles to final. About 45 min. Then I finshed it up at home in bits and pieces while working on a job. In all, maybe 4 hours.
real nice design!
That fish looks a little shocked..I would be too if I ran into her. Very cool.
She looks pretty chill for a mersquid. Squids always seem so tempermental to me- what with all the submarine and battleship destroying. ;P
The water/light colors are very nice. I really like the way you have with line. I keep looking over and over her tentacles. Nice work!
Really love how this turned out. Love the background color and how the little suction pods look on her tentacles.
Very charming character!
POIFECT! love it!
