Digital or Gouache

Just playing around a little bit. This first image was done in photoshop and the second was done in gouache. Each one took about the same amount of time. I can't figure out which one I like more. What do you think? One thing I learned is that my scanner isn't very accurate.

I think they both look great.
Digital paintings are great and all but I like seeing classical paintings as well. I just wish I could paint this good. :p

I like them both. But I know your traditional is even more amazing in person. ALways amazing what you do Mr Guy!

Oooh, tough call. I say the digital looks more polished, but I really like the texture of the traditional. I'd like to see the latter in person though.

Great sketch Guy! Hands down the gouche finish takes the cake in my opinion.

I am a fan of digital drawing programs but the gouache has more life to it. The digital painting programs(from what I have seen so far) all have a "look" but the gouache texture adds more depth. No matter which you use though they are both great

Guess I'm the oddball. I prefer the digital one. Looks more polished like someone else said.

Hello from a random surfer!

I just wanted to say how much I love this, her look and the warm colors, very nice.

But what I -really- wanted to say is she looks exactly like a character in my novel. Wow O.o

I like the texture in the gauche but the color in the photoshop (but you said your scanner didn't scan well...so maybe the color is off on the gauche one). You are very talented no matter what. They both look great but I always miss texture in the digital look.

I prefer the gouache, the handling is sensative and beautiful.

For the figure rendering I prefer the digital version, BUT for the background color I prefer the traditional because the combination would create a change of texture and the temperature of the colors for me would work better.
I think in the digital version you didn't really hit the skin tones as well as you did in the traditional. the Traditional one feels more alive, and has better tones, and has a little more volume to it.

I know what you mean about the scanner! I prefer the digitals colours - but the paint quality of the gouache! Because I'm just that awkward!

The whole scanner thing is a bit of a hassel, but as far as the images go I'd say I'm a huge fan of the gouche. The texture still looks great, and its I appreciate the real feel a lot more than digital art. (Not to say you can't do amazing things in the digital world!)
