Illustration Friday: Dreams

I thought I would go to bed early last night. I was very tired, my bed was very comfy, the windows were open to the cool night air. The perfect fall night. Perfect for perfect dreams. I would wake after having a great dream then I would do a great illustration of it. At least that was the plan.

Thwarted by a blasted mosquito! That dang bug buzzed my wife and I all night long. You know that feeling when you know a mosquito is there, and even if it’s not touching you, your mind starts thinking it is. It got me twitchin’ and itchin’ all night. I think I only got bitten 3 or 4 times, but it felt like a full squadron attack. I couldn’t stand it. I was wide-awake too. I finally got fed up and went down to my studio. So much for dreaming.

So, when it came time to draw something about dreams I was stumped. I could’ve illustrated an old dream from the past. Like that time I was pedaling my bike at top speed through the Utah desert with Ronald Reagan on my handlebars. We were chasing down jackrabbits. But, who wants to see a picture of that? Then I had it! I would draw the very thing that was plaguing my dreams. The killer mosquito. Drawn actual size. My new dream is to bite it back.

Gee, that's a great skeeter, Guy. So dumb and gross it is, just like the real thing. I like to say I love all God's creatures, but I don't much care for mosquitos. No nice dreams about mosquitos. Just nightmares. Your IF posts are always so clever.

Oh, nice. I love the ralph steadman splatters, and how there are just a few tiny red ones.

Sorry to hear about the busy night. A great illo came out of it though.

Great illo! The splatters really add to it. Would have liked to have seen the Ronald Reagan dream, though. :-)

When I think of dreams and mosquitos I think of that creepy Winsor Mcay cartoon from the turn of the century.
Great illo and colours

That's quite a respectable mosquito...no wonder he kept you up all night. And by the looks of it, he got someone! You know, he looks like his all-nighter got the best of him too...droopy eyes and all. I love what you did with this...dreamus interruptus!

Winsor McCay, i remembered that he was THE illustrator of dreams, went through his books... still i couldn't get my dream illustrated..

in my dreams i'm often lost, running through a maze of streets and alleys and houses from my youth, never finding what i'm looking for, nowhere people i used to know, stairs up and down... i see it all, yet the illo wont' come.. :/

i love your evil looking mosquito... :)

I would like to see a picture of you chasing jackrabbits through the Utah desert with Ronald Reagan on the handlebars.

Guy,
Love that skeeter! I swear I saw the same mosquito about 2 years ago hovering, and lookin' me over like I was a steak and potato dinner with an ice cream desert! YIKES! Same nasty look in his eye.

It was great visiting the other day, you've got some killer illustrations my friend. No wonder you're in demand.

I'll see you Friday!

I'd love to see you, Ronald Reagan, and a Jackrabbit chasin down mosquitos in the Utah desert. I never really had much of a mosquito problem around here, normally its more of a similar critter, the blackfly. They're much smaller, but bite just as annoyingly. Perhaps when you get the chance, you and Reagan would like to take a bike ride to Maine to do some blackfly hunting with me and a lobster eating moose? Eh, just a thought ;)
