Illustration Friday: Tranquility
Tranquility? Tranquility? What the heck is that? It is not something I am all that familiar with in my life. I mean, I have four kids. Need I say more ? For the sake of this blog I will. As I was thinking about the topic of tranquility I really had to think about my life. It is quite hectic sometimes. I don't seem to have very many quiet, peaceful times or what you would call tranquility. With all of the pressures of life, the deadlines, paying the bills, oh and the kids. It's hard enough to find sanity, let alone tranquility.
What kind of things give me those hard to find tranquil moments? Clean sheets on a newly made bed. Oh man, I love that. I can slide into bed and feel real peace for a few moments. Ahhhhhhhh. Or what about homemade raspberry jam? Oh baby, don't get me started. You can block out the world for a short time when you eat a piece of toast covered in homemade raspberry jam just like Mom used to make. Mmmmm mmmm mmm. And the best is that moment when the unharnessed atomic power contained in a two year old kid comes to an abrupt halt and he falls asleep. Behind the couch, on the stairs, in a plate of spagetti-o's. It can happen anywhere, any place and when it does--oh the tranquility. The only problem is that it never happens when you want it to. If you could make it happen when you want...if you could find that off switch and use it whenever you wanted...the power you would have! You would be the envy of parents everywhere.
That brings me to tranquilizer guns. I think it would work. When you become a parent the government should just issue you one. Think of the possibilities.

Wonderful! I'll take one of those tranquilizer guns, too...may even use it on myself every now and then.
HA! This is brilliant. And funny as all heck! Love your rendering as well. But then, I always love your drawings!
Haha ha!! I like this face really funny, and great textures and colors
that's teriffic! :-)
This is such an original take on the theme -- I love it.
So clever, funny, and so well rendered! Your work is always a joy! And your writing ain't slouchy either. Well done!
You rock!
Work on the tranquilizer gun, will you? Your kids have about worn me out.
Marvelous!
Excellent, excellent art. Truly inspiring. You're one of those artists that makes me wish I had an artistic bone in my body....
Oh, and nice blog name. Another good one is "Sit on a potato pan, Otis."
Great illustration, love the whites of those tranquil eyes. Agree ... what the heck is tranquility? We talk about 'when the kids have left home' all the time. Apparentley we are kidding ourselves - it gets worse!
Hahaha! I'd like to use that tranquilizer gun on some of my customers at work (I work retail).
Great great drawing!
HAHAHAH this is great!
Golly, Guy, both your comments and the image are fabulous.
This is one of my favorite tranquility pieces. I love it.
^_______________^
gave me a big smile!
super cute... i love the rhino!!!
I love your new layout. It is much easier to read than the black. I really like the cats on your header. Hope you don't mind, I posted a link to your site on my blog. Just that much easier for me to come and see your work ;).
Thanks for the comments everybody. I'm glad you liked it.
Me- Thanks. I thought it was hard to read too. I was changing the banner at the top (Thanks Paige for the tech support) and I thought I'd give the whole thing a makeover. Hope everybody likes it.
So funny. I like it.

What can I say? so cute, so nice, so funny!!!!! It looks like me going to work on mondays!!!
Great work and lovely colors!!!
This really made me laugh out loud. I love the goofy look on the rhino's face, and the confused look on the bird's. Great illustration!
It´s so funny. And your work is great!
haha
great piece
love the bird!
Hilarious! I would buy some darts.
There's an idea for an illustration; a two-year old with an off switch. You could create a room in chaos, a parent desperately running after him trying to reach the switch. You get the idea.
