Sketch Club Myself

So there are a bunch of great sketch clubs out there in blog land. Artists go out to lunch, find some unsuspecting person who is "unique", memorize every thing about them, then they go back to work and try to draw him/her from memory. My only problem is that all of the clubs are in some big city where artists get together for lunch and draw people. I don't do that much. That is why I started my own sketch club. Members: me. Not much of a club really, but I did draw a guy from memory the other day. Does that count? Mr. mullet guy rode past my car several times. He never stopped smiling. He was just happy to be out in his pink shorts, with his big drink and his janitor keychain on his grandma's bicycle. At least that's how I remember it.

The two old guys are just some studies I did. I did the one profile because profiles are one of the things I think I struggle with the most.

Hahaha, good caricatures. I don't think you struggle with profiles at all. :) That's one of my favourites from you.

was it Woody Allen who said "I wouldn't want to be a member of any club who would accept me as a member?" Ha!

Good job on the bike guy. I think I'll try the same thing... if I ever get outta the house!

Hey Guy, it looks like you found a winner! Los Angeles is a great place to find characters lurking about, but I've also found that any local Wal-Mart you visit will be full of "unique" characters too. I tell myself if I ever move back up there I'm going to start the Utah chapter of Sketch Club.

Seth- I agree, Wal-mart is a never ending source of inspiration.
Drazen if you moved to Utah I might consider changing the membership rules.

Thanks folks

That guy in the pink shorts is so like a guy I used to know! Only he wore YELLOW shorts all summer.

Love the noses on the bottom guys!

Another set of amazing character drawings!! Love the expression of the old man at the bottom left especially!! He seems to have a lot worries in mind ...

I misunderstood the meaning of this post. I thought you were trying to draw a picture of yourself, which confused me b/c you don't have that much hair, and don't know how to ride a bike.

I loved the lines on his temple. Those were so bitchin'.

Great work as always. I'm in the same situation...it's hard to find other artists in my community who would have any interest in a sketch club. I think maybe I'll start a one-man club too. Drawing from memory sounds like a terrific exercise.

Great work, by the way.

Does your club allow Smook's? Curious. My favorite is the bottom left one.

Kactiguy said...

Smooks? That is a tough one. I'd have to change the one member policy, but for you, what the heck.

MikeS said...

I just thought that since you'd change the rules for a Draz, why not a Smook?
